1. Carlos Ray Norris was born on March 10th, 1940 in Ryan, Oklahoma.

2. He joined the US Air Force in 1958 and it was during his service that he acquired the nickname Chuck.

3. During his armed forces service, Norris began training in the martial arts, particularly the form known as Tang Soo Doo.

4. Chuck Norris opened a chain of karate schools during the sixties and his more famous clients included Steve McQueen, Priscilla Presley and Donny Osmond.

 5. Norris won the World Professional Middleweight Karate Championship in 1968 and held it for six straight years before retiring in 1974.
